This page explains what cookies destinymatrixcompatibility.com uses and how to control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers data handling more broadly.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. It lets the site remember something between page loads — a preference you set, for example. Related technologies such as local storage and tracking pixels work similarly, and everything on this page applies to those too.
Cookies set by us are called first-party. Cookies set by other companies whose services appear on our pages — Google, mainly — are third-party.
What we do not use cookies for
Your birth dates are never stored in a cookie, in local storage, or anywhere else. The compatibility calculator runs entirely in your browser and the dates are discarded when you leave the page. No cookie on this site contains anything you typed into the calculator.
The categories we use
Necessary
These keep the site working and cannot be turned off through our banner. They remember your cookie choices so we do not ask again on every page, and they help protect against automated abuse.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consent preference | This site | Remembers your cookie choices | 6–12 months |
| Security / anti-abuse | This site or host | Protects against automated traffic | Session to 12 months |
Analytics
These tell us how the site is used in aggregate — which guides are read, how people arrive, where they lose interest. They do not identify you.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical lifespan |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another | Up to 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics | Maintains session state | Up to 2 years |
Advertising
Set by Google and its advertising partners to serve, cap and measure ads. These are the ones people usually care about most.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical lifespan |
__gads / __gpi | Serves and measures advertising | Up to 13 months | |
IDE / test_cookie | Google DoubleClick | Ad delivery and measurement | Up to 13 months |
| Partner cookies | Various ad partners | Ad selection and frequency capping | Varies |
Cookie names and lifespans are set by the providers and can change without notice, so treat the table as a guide rather than an exhaustive inventory.
Advertising in more detail
The site is free and funded by advertising through Google AdSense. A few specifics worth knowing:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Those cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Third-party ad networks may set their own cookies, which we do not control and cannot list exhaustively.
Opting out of personalised ads does not remove advertising — it makes the ads less relevant to you. The site still needs them to stay free.
Google Fonts
The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. This does not set a cookie, but it does mean your browser makes a request to Google’s servers, which will see your IP address. Google’s handling of that is covered by their privacy policy.
How to control cookies
Through our banner. The consent banner lets you accept or reject analytics and advertising cookies separately. You can reopen it at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer, and change your mind as often as you like.
Through your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies:
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Safari
- Edge
Blocking all cookies will not break the calculator — it runs in your browser regardless — but you may be asked about cookie preferences more often than you would like.
Consent, and where it applies
If you are visiting from the UK, the EU or another region with consent requirements, no analytics or advertising cookies are set until you choose. Necessary cookies are set regardless, as the law permits.
Your choice is stored so we do not ask on every page. Clearing your browser data will clear that choice, and the banner will appear again.
Changes
Providers add and rename cookies periodically. We update this page when we become aware of meaningful changes, and the date at the top reflects the last revision.
